Hambro Synagogue Burial Records
SynagogueScribes are pleased to announce the addition of over 500 burial records from Hambro Synagogue to our database covering 1797 to 1843.
Here are just some that we have managed to match to entries on our sister site CemeteryScribes:
ASSER, (Joicey) nee Levien buried Lauriston Cemetery. Hambro burial record.
CHAPMAN, Hannah buried Lauriston Cemetery. Hambro burial record.
HART, Stephen buried Brompton (Western Synagogue) Cemetery. Hambro burial record.
HART, Henry buried Lauriston Cemetery. Hambro burial record.
VAN PRAAGH, Benjamin Moses buried Lauriston Cemetery. Hambro burial record.
Its interesting to see that while most were buried at Lauriston Cemetery some were buried at Hoxton (Gompertz) and another at Brompton Cemetery (Hart).
Amongst the burial records there are some additional notes which reinforces the need to look at the original source once you have idenified an ancestor’s record, such as:
“A place to be kept open .. the daughter if Mr ? Levien at the foot of her mother’s grave Feb 4th 1826”
And
“A place to be kept open for Mrs Levien next to her husband’s grave“
Is there any record of a Benjamin Chapman buried in 1806. He was originally buried in Haslar Naval Hospital cemetery and his father (unnamed) obtained permission for reburial in a Jewish cemetery. The only namesake I can find is Benjamin Chapman and Hannah his wife buried in Lauriston Road in 1836 and 1848
