Charles Rubens.Transactions and Miscellanies Jewish Historical Society Vol 24 1970-1973 pp 114-133 Grandfather-Joseph Cortissos b 1656 came to England 1712. His wife Clara Levy a near relation of Uri Levy (German Rabbi –Hasan in Amsterdam 1604). Parents of Joseph were Abraham (b 1701 Barcelona died London 1754) and Simha daughter of Samuel Cohen Farro and Sarah Salazar first cousin to Joseph Mendes Da Costa. His mother came to England in 1728 with Jacob Mendes Da Costa. She was about 26 and married in 1729. Her sister Esther married Joshua Sarfaty de Pinna. Joseph’s sister Sarah b 1730 married Abraham Sarfaty son of Hazan Sarfaty and nephew of Joseph’s uncle Joshua Sarfaty de Pinna. Their daughter was Grace. Joseph was born 1731 and married first to his cousin Hester Cortissos daughter of Abraham de Isaac Semah Cortissos. They had no children. His second marriage in 1764 was to Sarah Lumbroso daughter of Daniel Lumbroso and Strella Serra of the family Gomes Serra. His wife’s brother David married Leah Jesurun. He went into partnership with his cousin Jacob de Pinna.
